What is FMLA and am I entitled to it?

  • The Family Medical Leave Act is a law that allows for up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for specific medical and family reasons without the concern of being fired for taking that leave.
  • FMLA only applies to private employers with 50 or more employees.
  • Requirements for FMLA include working with the company for at least 1  year and a specific amount of hours.
  • Your employer may also make you take your paid time off in conjunction with the leave.
