Changes to OPRA

Significant changes to New Jersey’s Open Public Records Act took effect September 3, 2024.  The changes include (1) new requirements that requestors certify regarding whether the request is for a commercial purpose or is related to a legal proceeding; (2) a new cause of action in favor of public agencies against requestors where public agencies can ask courts to limit or even eliminate their obligation to respond to OPRA requests; (3) expanded privacy protections; and much more.
